DIY: How To Wax a Bike Effectively

Here goes the general scenario  we get a new bike, maintain it properly for the first few months and after that we don even  bother cleaning them ,as a result the colour fades out. There are people who  get it cleaned and polished periodically in a service station . But I bet we won’t get cent percent satisfaction unless and until we do it  ourself. To retain the glossiness of paint job we  need to wax the bike . Here’s a simple procedure.

For  waxing a bike  the following things are required.

Water, car/ bike shampoo , 3 to 4 microfiber cloths( easily available in car detailing shops), wax , a used tooth brush.

  • Before we start cleaning ,park the bike in a shady place and remove jewelry like rings and bracelet cause we don want to scratch the paint job .

  • Remove all the dust from the  bike using a clean microfiber cloth.

  • Now  spray water (use cold water)  on  the bike and wash it with standard car/bike wash shampoo (NEVER use detergents). Scrub the parts with gentle pressure.

  • With a used tooth brush remove the grease from the engine surfaces.

  • Wash  again with water and remove all the shampoo before it dries.

  • We may find  black spots  on the paint job and   engine surfaces   which cannot be removed using shampoo , they are nothing but tar marks which can be removed using diesel or kerosene.

  • Dry the bike thoroughly with a clean cloth.

  • The bike is now  ready for waxing.

  • Apply the wax(preferably 3M or turte wax) in a circular motion on to the paint job one section at a time and never go near  the plastic surfaces cause it will  leave  white marks on them .

  • Now allow the wax to  dry for sometime  and buff the waxed surface  with minimum pressure.

Now thats what we call bl-aa-ing!
