Honda CBR250R Vs Kawasaki Ninja 250R

The new 250cc segment is expecting the arrival of the Honda CBR250R this April and the Mahindra Mojo 300. Rumours are telling that Yamaha are also keen to introduce a bike in this segment but nothing confirmed as of now. The two heavyweights in the segment are undoubtedly the Ninja and the CBR so let’s see as to who has better performance, is value for money and easy to maintain.

First let’s talk about the specs that matter to us generally and which is necessary to lookout before buying the bike. The Ninja produces a peak power of 32.5 Bhp @ 11000 rpm and a maximum torque of 22 Nm @ 8200 rpm. It’s a parallel twin cylinder engine with 4 valves per cylinder. It has a liquid cooled, fuel injected engine. It has a 6 speed manual gearbox as well. The bike has a ground clearance of 135mm which is a very important factor to considering the Indian road conditions and an overall dimension of 2085mm*715mm*1115mm (length, width, height). The mileage of the Ninja hovers around the mid 20’s or early 30’s. The bike is priced at 3.05 lac.

Coming to the CBR, it has a single cylinder liquid cooled engine. The max power output is at 26.5bhp and 23 N-m of torque at 7000rpm. The thing to note here is that the maximum power output is at a very less Rpm especially useful for our conditions. The overall dimension of the bike is 2.035m × 0.720m × 1.125m and has a ground clearance of .145m which is 10mm more than the Ninja. The mileage of the bike is expected to be around high 20’s and mid 30’s.The C-ABS system is optional at a premium and the base version is available at a price of 1.5 lac.

In terms of practicality, value for money the Honda wins the competition hands down but the Ninja has far superior technology and performance compared to the CBR. If you willing to spend that extra penny for the Ninja then go for it but the wiser option would be to opt for the C-ABS CBR250r for a sum of 1.8 lac.
